Music in 4-4 Time
This work uses high-flow acrylics and resists on watercolor paper. It's a quartet of 10" squares that can be hung vertically, horizontally, or in two rows of two. I wanted them to all work together yet retain their individuality. You can rotate these and hang them in any combination. A quartet of colorsâsoft greens, deep plums, golds, and accents of orange take turns dominating in each panel. I used resists to draw dynamic gestural lines and interesting stencil patterns that I could soften with washes. The understated feel of the resulting four-part piece belies all the cerebral planning that went into it. Like a well-choreographed four-part dance, itâs meant to look easy.
